In 2021, Disney is planning to have a new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring the features of a MagicBand to your smart devices. The app currently has the key feature, which allows you to open your room if you do not have your MagicBand on you.
With this feature comes the retirement of Disney’s complimentary MagicBand distribution to Disney Resort hotel guests. This will go into place starting January 1st, 2021. When booking at a Disney Resort hotel, you will have the option to purchase a new MagicBand at a discount (which will include even more colors and designs featuring favorite Disney characters than before). If you choose not to purchase a discounted MagicBand, you will be able to use the My Disney Experience app or a Key to the World card during your visit. MagicBands will still be offered throughout the parks and other retail locations.
